Staying Healthy and Practicing Self Care

National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) exists to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. NHDD is an initiative to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be.

The themes for NHDD week are:

Monday (4/16): NHDD/Prepare

Host your main event, since it’s NHDD, or use it as a day to get resources together!

Tuesday (4/17): Start with Yourself

A day to think about your own healthcare decisions

Wednesday (4/18): Family/Friends/Loved Ones

A day to discuss your wishes with others (and learn their wishes)

Thursday (4/19): Spread the Word

A day to tell others that you’ve engaged in advance care planning and encourage them to do the same

Friday (4/20): Facilities Focus

A day for healthcare providers of all sorts to promote advance care planning

Saturday (4/21): Professionals Preparedness

A day to ensure that all professionals (healthcare, clergy, legal, and others) understand and can promote advance care planning

Sunday (4/22): Reflection and Readiness

Consider what worked well for NHDD week and file or share your advance care plans so they will be available if needed.

At TonaLaw, we understand the importance of Self Care, so we can do our BEST work for our families and for our clients. We care about the health and well-being of our staff, community, and of course, our Personal Injury clients, who trust us to FIGHT for them.

We also work with numerous healthcare facilities in the Greater New York Area and on Long Island to help doctors, surgeons, chiropractors, and others collect on wrongfully denied No-Fault claims.

Here’s some of what we do at TonaLaw to stay healthy and focused:

“For my physical health, I attend the gym 5x a week and run/spin and cook healthy stuff. For my mental health, I meditate and drink wine.”

“I eat a vegetarian diet, work out 4-5 times a week, either at my gym or at SoulCycle. I hang out with my dogs and take them to Long Island parks to stay connected to nature.”

“I wake up at 4.30 every day to practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  I also meditate daily and practice yoga.  I have completely removed processed carbs and sugar from my diet.”

“I am gluten free (not by choice) so I am mandated to eat healthy for the most part. I take a TON of supplements daily to ensure my immune system stays intact. I just began exercising (elliptical) 4 days a week, AND I QUIT SMOKING!”

“I stopped drinking soda for over a year now and clean as my exercise!”

“I meditate every day and I have been exercising 6 days a week for the last three weeks. I have cut out soda and stopped eating after 7:30 pm.”

“To keep myself healthy and on track, I try to make sure I meal prep for each week on Sunday, that way each day I have healthy, clean food to eat for lunch and do not reach for the bad stuff. After work, I try to take my dog out for a long walk each night to keep her and myself active. I horseback ride for my mental health.”
