Since earning his Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1993, Thomas Tona has gathered a quarter century’s experience as a New York State trial attorney, and has spent nearly 20 years establishing the expertise and prestige of his firm, TonaLaw. A born and bred Long Islander, Tom’s firm is based out of Suffolk County, where they handle New York Personal Injury, No-Fault Collections, and Civil Litigation cases.
TonaLaw currently represents hundreds of healthcare providers and injured parties seeking reimbursement of wrongly denied no-fault claims, resolving in excess of 5,000 no-fault collection claims that have been wrongly denied by insurance carriers every year. The firm also represents injured clients in a wide variety of personal injury accident cases and civil litigation clients when they have a legal dispute with another party over monies owed. Over his two decades of practice, Tom has established prestige by becoming a member of the Keenan Trial Institute and being awarded the Atticus Phoenix Award in 2017, as well as the Atticus Game Changer Award in 2018. Tom also earned the Avvo Client’s Choice Award in 2016 and the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent peer rating for Highest Level of Professional Excellence in 2017. In his personal life, Tom maintains a low profile with his wife, daughter, two dogs, and cat at his Suffolk County Northshore residence. He trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu twice a week at Emerson Souza BJJ in Baldwin, where he earned his black belt in 2017.
Christopher Becker joined TonaLaw in November 2018, immediately bringing a high level of tenacity and vigor to each case he receives. A Long Island native, Christopher attended Chaminade High School before graduating summa cum laude at St. Joseph’s College. While in undergrad, Christopher worked as a tutor at the St. Joseph’s College Academic Center, where he established an interest in utilizing his proficient reading and writing skills to assist those less inclined. Mr. Becker then proceeded to pursue a Juris Doctor at The University of Alabama School of Law. While in attendance, Chris maintained
gleaming academic record punctuated by receiving “Best Brief” at the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition at Pace University, and his appointment as a Senior Editor of the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review
. After receiving his law degree in 2016, as well as becoming a Bar certified attorney in the state of New York, Christopher now practices primarily in Personal Injury law with a focus on vehicular accidents in the Long Island area. In his personal time, Chris is a martial artist, avid sports fan, and frequent concert-goer.
The newest member of TonaLaw, Kara S. McCabe is a lifelong New Yorker, through and through. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Albany and served in New York City for the first two years of her adult career while working her way through Brooklyn Law School. She interned separately for the United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in the midst of seeking her JD. Admitted to the New York State Bar in October 2019, McCabe is now a proud member of the New York legal community. She has been awarded for her academic excellence in negotiations and client advocacy skills.
Kara joins the TonaLaw team as a promising associate ready to do whatever it takes on behalf of her clients. Her dedication in college and her early experience in criminal law, private investigations, and civil matters make her a well-rounded addition to our litigation team.
