There are many lessons to be learned from Jiu-Jitsu that carry into our personal and professional lives. Tom has a history of martial arts and a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and many of the core values instilled at The New York Personal Injury & No-fault Collections Law Firm are based on principles he learned in Jiu-Jitsu. Below are some of those lessons.
One of the first things you’ll notice about Emerson is his self-confidence. He is confident is who he is and he has nothing to prove. This confidence has developed from years of Jiu-Jitsu and consistenly bettering himself. To Emerson, one of the biggest lessons that Jiu-Jitsu instills in people is that it makes you honest with yourself and others. Emerson is not afraid to have tough conversations with friends who need to hear the truth because he knows it will help them in the long run. When you are honest, you then become humble and an overall good person.
The lessons learned in Jiu-Jitsu are similar to The New York Personal Injury & No-fault Collections Law Firm’s core values. If you have a big ego, Jiu-Jitsu will break it. If you lack confidence, Jiu-Jitsu will help you have more faith in your abilities. You either are humble and get humbler, or you get humbled. One thing we stress at The New York Personal Injury & No-fault Collections Law Firm is having a growth mindset over a limited mindset. People with a growth mindset are willing to be humbled and are on a quest for answers.
In his training, Emerson provides people with his one on one attention. He treats the person in front of him like they are the only person in the room and he trains them based on their abilities. Tom transferred this teaching style into The New York Personal Injury & No-fault Collections Law Firm where he trains new people at the firm each in their own way. Everyone is at different positions in life and learns differently. It’s best to listen and learn so you can teach them in a way that works.
