At TonaLaw, we specialize in personal injury, breach contract litigation, and no-fault collections. There are a few questions we are asked quite often and at the beginning of every relationship. Although they are mostly related to personal injury cases, the questions pertain to all three of our business silos.
In this blog post, we dive into the top five frequently asked questions we experience at our law firm. By answering these questions, we hope to help you save time and make an informed decision if you are considering a legal situation.
If you have further questions, feel free to contact us! We are happy to help.
- How do I know I have a personal injury case?
The short answer – is if you are hurt. If you are hurt, we will file for an investigation to determine if negligence was involved. If so, we can submit a claim if we believe a case exists.
- How much is my case worth?
It depends. If a personal injury attorney promises you any number or a time frame, it’s a red flag. There really is no way of knowing how much a case is worth without a full investigation. This includes investigating liability, who was in the wrong, the damages, how much coverage was needed, etcetera.
- How long will it take to resolve my case?
Again, it depends. It depends on three factors – liability, the extent of damages, and insurance coverage. Sometimes cases settle for the full policy within 90 days, and sometimes they go through full-bore litigation, including trial, and take years to reach a resolution.
- How do you decide whether to go to trial?
There are pros and cons to going to trial and deciding against it. We always let our clients know the risks involved when going to trial. You never know what the jury will take into consideration. However, the decision is a collaborative effort, where we will perform a risk-reward analysis with you.
- How much does it cost to hire a personal injury lawyer?
Personal injury lawyers make one-third of the legal fee. If there is no recovery, there is no fee. However, hiring a personal injury lawyer is not free. The lawyer may get paid from the insurance settlement, but you do pay for it.
